Continuing our discussion of biblical convictions regarding work, unemployment, and even under-employment, here are convictions 6-8 with a ninth point added about temptations for the unemployed.

Sunday's sermon from Ephesians 4:25 was about the need to be godly truth-tellers if we are to build strong relationships in the church. This is part of "putting off" sinful behavior and "putting on" godly behavior.

Paul Tripp's book Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands was written to help Christians counsel other Christians. While there is certainly a place for professional counseling, the book underscores the idea that most of our giving and receiving of counsel will not be in the therapist's office, but in living rooms, coffee shops, church lobbies, offices, classrooms, and grocery stores. All day we are listening to and giving counsel. The question is, are we doing that well?

Proverbs 29:18 says that "where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, but happy is he who keeps the law." That word "unrestrained" is also used in Exodus 32:25 where at the scene of the golden calf, "Moses saw that the people were out of control." When we lack direction and clarity about vision we may not necessarily build golden calves, but we will fail to move forward together....A church needs vision because people need vision.

• Posted in Forgiveness, Relationships

For this first post of our newly resurrected blog, it seemed fitting to follow up on Sunday's sermon. While I said at the outset of the sermon that we wouldn't be able to address all the particulars of forgiveness, a few are worthy of mention before too much time passes.
