Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (I John 4:11)
Welcome to Women’s Ministry at Cornerstone! We’re so glad you are interested in us. Cornerstone’s women’s ministry exists to facilitate friendship, mixed-generational relationship, gender-specific discipleship and knowledge of the Bible among the women of our church.
We find in the Bible compelling examples of and instruction in these types of relationships. We are also aware that in our rather spread-out and scheduled society, it can often be hard to make these relationships happen without a little help. Our hope is that through our annual women’s ministry events and opportunities, we can help to jump-start your journey to meaningful and spiritual relationship with other women in our church.
Our annual schedule looks like this:
August: Women’s Summer Social – A meal together, casual fellowship, and a preview into the specifics of the upcoming year
October: A large group book study, meeting 3 or 4 Tuesday evenings in October, led by women in our church.
November: Registration for winter/spring Bible study groups
December: Christmas Social – A seasonal gathering for fellowship. Often includes a service project to help people in our community.
January-March/April: Bible study groups meet weekly or biweekly in homes. Each group studies the same book of the Bible together, and is led by two women within our church. All Bible study leaders prepare together for these studies throughout the preceding fall.
March/April: Each year in the spring we have either a Friday evening meeting, or a Friday-Saturday retreat. Our pattern has been to alternate, so that we have a retreat every other year. We typically use Camp Caraway in Asheboro as our retreat venue. For these spring meetings and retreats, we often have women from our church give the teachings. And occasionally we have guest speakers. These meetings always include a time of singing together, and typically some small-group application discussion.
June/July: Moms Refresh – A time of casual teaching and discussion, intended to remind moms of the significance of their day-to-day work caring for and loving their children.
Serving in women’s ministry starts with participation:
If you are interested in serving in women’s ministry, we suggest that you start by regularly attending our events! This will give you a good sense of how our women relate and what kind of service each event requires. This ministry is very much a group-participation ministry. We love to involve as many of our women as possible in ways that fit with their current life-situation and giftings. It is not a ministry that includes large-platform roles, but a ministry that encourages us all in loving God and His ways and in doing life together.
We hope that all of our women will be involved!
Planning Team:
Our Women’s Ministry Planning Team serves in nailing down the specifics of the content and schedule of our events each year. And also in talking through these plans with our pastors. This group is typically made up of women who in some way have contact with a large number of the women in our church and who have some knowledge of our women’s needs. It is also a group that we try to keep representative of the various age-groups among our women.
This group changes and shifts as the years go by. The current group serving is Hannah Noel, Ruth Tangeman, Elizabeth Radez, Kate Sasser, Stacey McLeod, Colleen Martin, Connie Noel and Anne Baker.
Thank you for your interest in Cornerstone’s Women’s Ministry. Feel free to contact Anne Baker with questions.
