Today we feel like the author of Psalm 149: “Let the high praises of God be in their throats and two-edged swords in their hands” (149:6). Today we speak “the high praises of God,” because of God allowing Roe to be overturned. The prayers and hard work of millions of Christians over decades has been rewarded in a major legal victory. So, today is for "high praises." And then tomorrow we'll take up our figurative “two-edged swords” to continue to fight for laws in our land that protect life—from conception.
For almost 50 years Christians have marked a Sunday near…

This Sunday we celebrated the Sanctity of Human Life, annually timed to be near the anniversary of the January 22, 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade.
We looked at 1 Thessalonians 5:1–18 and considered how it speaks to us about how we should engage this battle. Right in the middle of this passage is a text that offers a powerful summary of our different responses:
And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient…

Brothers and sisters, this in some ways is a part 2 to John’s post from yesterday. It has some additional information but ends with the same call to prayer.
Why to Pray
First let’s go over why we should be praying today and in the months to come.
Al Mohler opened his podcast this morning by saying,
“Today is going to be historic, because at 10 o’clock today at Supreme Court of…

Tomorrow, December 1, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, one of the most significant cases regarding abortion since Roe v. Wade in 1973.
This case originated when Mississippi’s sole abortion clinic challenged a 2018 Mississippi law, the Gestational Age Act, which limited abortion after 15 weeks of gestation. After lower courts blocked the law, Mississippi appealed the case to the Supreme Court.
Unlike some other cases which have come before the court, the Mississippi law directly challenges the legal framework imposed by Roe v. Wade.
Would you consider praying and/or fasting tomorrow (December 1) against the scourge of abortion and for the lives of the unborn, who are made in the image of God?

Last Sunday we looked at the topic of race from the Bible. This is relevant for us as 21st-century Christians who want to honor Christ in the place and time where he's placed us. But it's also connected to our desire to love our neighbors as ourselves. Part of loving our neighbors within our community and this culture involves thinking well about the topic of race—and then living well in light of it.
In the sermon I read from Francis Schaeffer's The Church at the End of the Twentieth Century. He originally wrote this book in 1970, just a few years before Roe…

We are excited to tell you about an opportunity to get involved in our community through a ministry called Safe Families for Children. Safe Families is a volunteer ministry that exists to provide biblical hospitality, love, and support to families in crisis, largely through providing parents with safe places for their children to stay while they work to resolve whatever crises that they are experiencing, such as unemployment, homelessness, or financial difficulty. This ministry equips churches like ours to create support networks for desperate people in our community who have no one to turn to in times of crisis. They do this through creating teams of people to come alongside of these families in various roles. This is one of the really neat things about Safe Families - that there are many ways to be involved.
