Here is a report from Jeanne Hinds on SGC's first contra dance (check out the videos below):
95 people came, and nearly all of them danced. There was a handful from TCC and CYT, a few teens from RGC, looked like most of SGC's youth group 16 and up (and some parents) and a whole lot of our adult singles. And a few contra friends and young marrieds from our church as well as some of the "geezer generation". It was a very good mix of people and ages.
It was a great success with many saying that they had no idea contra was so fun and they cannot wait for the January dance. The music of Ed Howe and John Cote was awesome! We expect a larger turn out in January.
I love how contra dancing breaks down awkward barriers between guys and girls for the teens and singles, families can do it together, and it even gets shy people out of their shells and builds community with a shared experience of fun and laughter.
We hope to see you at our next contra dance, January 4, 2013!
Jeanne
