Hey Guys,
As I'm sure you’ve heard, the Philippines was recently hit by Typhoon Haiyan which caused massive amounts of destruction. The Philippine government has said that at least 2,200 people were killed and 11 million people were significantly affected. Thousands of people are without the basic necessities of food, water, and shelter. Houses were leveled and looting is taking place.
As a family of churches we have a unique opportunity to help provide relief to those in the Philippines. In God's kindness, we have had a long and fruitful partnership with pastors Nilo Ebu and Pete Valdez, both of whom lead churches in the Philippines. Lynn Baird and Tony Walsh have worked with Nilo and Pete on numerous occasions. Bob Kauflin recently led a worship conference in the Philippines.
Nilo and Pete have the opportunity to minister to those whose lives have been shattered by the typhoon, and they have asked for whatever help we might be able to provide. Our church in Pasadena, CA Sovereign Grace Church-Pasadena is collecting money for relief in the Philippines. I want to ask you to consider doing three things:
- Would you please pray for the people in the Philippines who are affected by this typhoon. Pray for Nilo and Pete as they care for people in their area.
- Would you prayerfully consider how your church might participate in this relief effort through prayer and financial giving?
- Would you consider sending an email to members of your congregation making them aware of how they can participate in this relief effort?
The church in Pasadena has made it very easy to give. Donations can be sent to: Sovereign Grace Church of Pasadena, 1530 E. Elizabeth Street, Pasadena, CA 91104. Please mark "Disaster Relief" in the memo section. Or you can donate directly through the online giving section they have set up. Donations can be made here (marked Disaster Relief).
Thanks for considering this and thanks for praying.
Grace, Mark
