I spoke with Rick Beech, one of the directors at Habitat for Humanity recently, and he mentioned a new project they have going in Apex for 2013. It sounded like a great opportunity for our church. We would love to partner with them for this project, but we will need someone to act as a facilitator. Below is information about a meeting they have coming up on September 6. That's not very far away, I realize, but if you have interest in serving Habitat and SGC in this way, we'd love for you to attend the meeting on our behalf. Their newsletter is below.
Thank you for giving it some consideration,
Daniel
Hello Church Partners in Southwest Wake County,
I am pleased to inform you that Habitat Wake has formed a partnership with White Oak Missionary Baptist Church which will enable 16 houses to be built in Apex. The plan is to build 8 houses in the spring and 8 houses in the fall of 2013.
This note is to invite you to attend an information meeting about this exciting ministry opportunity on Thursday, September 6 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary AME Church, 600 South Salem Street, located at the corner of South Salem and Lynch Streets in Apex.
Come hear about White Oak’s ministry vision for the Apex White Oak Villas (located near St. Mary’s Church where we will be meeting) and how Habitat Wake and the faith communities across southwest Wake can work together to help make this ministry vision of affordable housing in Apex come true.
Our goal is to form a coalition of faith communities from southwest Wake County to help build these homes and hopefully continue building together as ministry opportunities are identified throughout southwest Wake County.
In addition to helping to build these 16 houses, we encourage you to consider informing families about this opportunity that you think could benefit from the Habitat home ownership process. We will have someone at this meeting to describe the family selection process and to provide details about an upcoming information session for interested families to apply for the homes.
The neighboring churches are excited, and several other churches across southwest Wake have also expressed an interest in being a part of this ministry project. This is great! I look forward to this powerful ministry partnership. Please let me know who from your church will be in attendance at this September 6th meeting. Please feel free to invite additional people from your church to attend.
I ask that you begin to pray that this partnership be as transformational as possible for the selected families and all involved.
When we come together to help families in need across various faith traditions, I firmly believe that God rejoices and uses it to advance God’s Kingdom on earth. I hope that you will consider being a part of this exciting project.
In Partnership,
Rick Beech
