Clay Shelor has written some excellent discussion questions based on last week's sermon. We looked at the topic of "every-member ministry," an idea that has gripped us as elders over the last year or so.
The notion is fairly simple: (1) Every member (Christian) has a gift; (2) Every member (Christian) has a ministry. The change has been in trying to make it a reality in our church. At this point we have more desire than we have ability, but hopefully the sermon and questions like these following will help us get there.
- How does the entire book of Ephesians divide into two portions? As we discuss our walk, why do we need to remember the first part of Ephesians?
- In Ephesians 4:7, to whom is grace given;(spiritual gifts)?
- Where do spiritual gifts fit into the biblical story line (the good news of the kingdom of God) (Ephesians 4:7-11) (Throughout the OT God promises One through whom all nations would be blessed, Jesus comes, lives a perfect life..... see John 6:33-35; 1 Peter 3:21-22; Acts 2:5-13,33)?
- What are the gifts listed in Eph. 4:11? Why are they given (verse 12)?
- To whom does the work of the ministry belong? (4:12)
- Remembering the call for tender-hearted humility, love, unity and avoiding uncharitable judgment, what excites/frustrates you in church? What does this say about your spiritual gifts?
- How can you serve with the gifts the Holy Spirit has given you?
- What is an area of gifting that you see in someone else in our home group that you could recognize and affirm?
- Read 1 Peter 4:10-11 and Ephesians 4:12. What is the result of God's people walking in the gifts that He has given them?
