Dear SGC,

Paul spoke of the financial gifts of the Philippians as “a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God” (Philippians 4:18). It was a gift that helped the apostle in his ministry, but he saw it also done unto the Lord. Through Paul, God was telling these generous saints, “Well done!” May it be that you, too, can hear God’s “Well done!” through the thanks we feel as elders of SGC for your financial offerings. It is a true joy for us to serve you.

Every year is a blur and it can be hard to remember what even happens in a given year. To remind us all, through your giving here’s what happened in 2018 at SGC:

  • We were able to give about $60k to Sovereign Grace for church planting around the world and other ministry that equips and protects our church and the other 75 SG churches;
  • $63k was given to those in need both within the church and outside of it;
  • Our various ministries continued which all serve to “make disciples of all nations” beginning right here in our own church—children’s, high school, and middle school ministries; Rangers and Keepers; young adults; men’s and women’s ministries;
  • The women grew in the Lord and together through their ongoing Bible studies and the fall and winter meetings;
  • We hosted Paul Tripp’s “What Did You Expect?” seminar last February and were able to invite others from the community;
  • Our facility helped us hold discipleship classes on evangelism, life in the Spirit, and spiritual disciplines;
  • We gathered for corporate worship and experienced God’s work in our lives each week as we heard sermons on Isaiah, Proverbs (marriage, parenting, work), and Acts; including hearing Willie Harris last October;
  • We welcomed babies born into our church and recognized those spiritually reborn through sharing in their baptisms;
  • The men gathered in Asheboro in December, our deacons at Black Mountain last summer, and the young adults in western Carolina last July, all for retreats to edify the saints and worship the Lord;
  • Our ministries for those in need in our community continued to develop through Safe Families for Children and Hand of Hope; and we again touched those farther afield through Operation Christmas Child;
  • We honored Phil Sasser for his decades of service to the Lord and to us as he stepped into his new role as elder emeritus.

In other words, 2018 was significant and a vivid picture of the body of Christ in action. We desire to be even more fruitful in 2019, but it is good to recall God’s grace at work in our midst last year.

At times we wonder what we’re giving to when we give to an organization like a church. The sum of the matter is that we’re giving to ministry. Through your giving, ministry is able to happen in a multitude of ways by dozens of people. May that ministry accomplish great things for the glory of God in the coming year!

With great thankfulness and respect,
