We all know children should honor and obey their parents, but the Ephesians 6 command to do so is far more than a mere order children must follow. It is a command full of promise and encouragement and even strength. The promise is the fruit of your obedience – that "it may go well with you" – not because your parents are perfect but because the maker of that promise is. Even when life or sin make it hard to obey or honor our parents, we can find encouragement and strength in the promise because we know God's plans and purposes will stand, and his plans are for our good.
