We revisit the first five chapters of Romans in preparation for returning to our Romans series. These chapters are a powerful portrayal of the gospel. Paul introduces the gospel, which reveals the righteousness of God and concerns Jesus, the crucified and risen son of God and savior. God, in his holiness, requires righteousness and purity of all who would approach him, but this righteousness is nowhere to be found in humanity. Only in Jesus Christ, through faith in him and his death in our place, do we find the free gift of righteousness that brings us mercy and grace and life rather than death and wrath.
