Paul points out that idolatry, rejection of God's goodness and authority, is at the root of all sin. Idolatry begets the sins that are listed in this passage; God gives up idolaters to impurity, dishonorable passions, and debased minds. But Paul also spells out the hope for sinful idolaters—the One who was himself given up for our sake.
