"The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father."
That's how J.I. Packer opens his famous book Knowing God. The study of God is inexhaustible and glorious, dipping our toes into an ocean, looking through a telescope at a trillion undiscovered galaxies. It is what Jesus called "eternal life" (John 17:3). Paul called it the surpassing joy that makes all other things appear as rubbish in comparison (Phil. 3:7-8). To grow in our knowledge of God is to widen our gaze, expand our souls, grow in wisdom, mature in godliness, find light in the darkness, and grasp an anchor for all storms. How truly we need to know God.
To help us think more and more clearly about God, we have invited a couple dozen of our church members to write about one aspect of God. Sam Hodges kicked us off by writing about Christ as "the Word" and John McLawhorn reflected on God as "Father." Over the next months we'll be adding different reflections on God to our church blog. We hope it blesses you and enhances your knowledge of our God who is beyond all ability to comprehend. That is, of course, why we put all our trust in him and why we continue to worship him. May God use these blogs to strengthen your faith and increase your joy.
