Upon a cross of wood You died for me,
Under the weight of all my sin and shame
While I Your enemy was still to be.
I cursed and scoffed and mocked Your very name.
‘Twas not ‘till the Spirit unveiled my eyes
That I tasted Your sweet mercy and grace.
And now from my lips songs of praise do rise.
I find my peace within Your warm embrace.
Your death sets free my soul from God’s just wrath.
Your resurrection seals new life to live.
You turned my sorrow to a merry laugh,
Because my wrongs You freely have forgiv’n.
So now, I praise the Christ in Heav’n above,
For in His death I find undying love.
