A reflection on the cross by Jay Gregus:
Step by step, he climbed the hill,
Knowing what it meant, but walking still.
His wounds were deep, but would deepen still,
till a chiseled tomb he'd one day fill.
Yet on he strove against the weight.
His body quivered, yet did not break.
For the hardest test was still ahead;
To be sure, his sweat ran red.
Thunder rolled and darkness fell,
His body was pierced but not his will.
Pushing up to draw a breath,
yet it was not yet his time to welcome death.
Bloodstained body, bloodstained crown,
All had left him; no friends around.
Yet none could triumph, only him,
and in a few short moments he would win.
Unbroken, unbeaten, and sinless he,
Took all my sin, and purchased me.
Yes it was finished, it was done.
He was dead, but grace was ours!
Yes it was finished, he was gone,
but grace was won!
The Savior would rise up!
And one day He'll return!
